What
makes a great fitness model? An ease with
being in front of the camera, a lack of reservation, and an ability to
quickly bond with the person holding the camera. Good energy between
photographer and model make for a successful shoot. And always to have fun
with whatever endeavor you take on!
What
are the secrets to become a fitness model?
Staying
in shape certainly helps...it was hard for me as I gained SO much weight
for the Worlds Strongest competition, taking it off was quite the chore.
I luckily had the help of expert
bodybuilding coach Robert Sherman at Gold's Venice this past year and a
half, and he really helped push and inspire me to trim back down to diva
size. =) If anyone is interested in training with Robert, feel free to
email me! I'll give you his contact information.
And for my Strongwoman fans, I am still
in contact with my strength coach, Tom Magee. I have his contact
information as well...they're both amazing guys.
What
did you do to become a model?
It was all rather accidental...right after my first competition as a
bodybuilder, a writer from Musclemag Intl' took me to a wrestling event.
There I met several people who I would work with in the future, and had
several publicity photos taken that wound up being my first presence on
the internet. I had a lot of luck with that initial experience, including
having several directors express interest in me.
What
are the benefits to being a fitness model?
Being an ambassador of a health and
fitness lifestyle is pretty fantastic! We represent an alternative to the
anorexic ideal that fashion magazines still push; bodies that were created
with active lifestyles and healthy diets, as opposed to starvation,
cigarettes and in some cases drugs. I've known several fashion models,
male and female, and it is anything but healthy. I think it's an important
thing for a young woman to realize it's better to have a finely tuned
athlete's body than strive to be a walking clothes hanger.
What
is your favorite things about being a fitness model?
I love making appearances at bodybuilding
/ fitness shows and expos and meeting the people who make us popular! Also
educating people about the latest in
supplements and
training, and seeing
our friends from around the globe!
How
do you stay beautiful?
I have my
mothers genetics for great skin...but I also take great care to try to
prolong my looks as much as possible. I use a variety of moisturizers with
spf 15 for my face, including one anti wrinkle cream that has muscle
relaxes in it to keep from squinting in the sun - which we get a lot of
here in California. I'm taking my anti aging precautions now. I eat foods
that are unprocessed, drink tons of filtered water and Pellegrino, drink
some red wine, keep myself in great cardiovascular condition year round,
and try to get a healthy dose of mother nature when I am able. I
occasionally surf and cycle, and am going to start hiking more often.
Sometimes you have to step away from the treadmill...
How
do you stay fit, do you have a personal trainer, chef, work out, what do
you do?
I have the coach I've been working with since late 2003, Robert Sherman,
who is absolutely fantastic! You have to love a guy who created the
phrase," no hurt, no tight skirt"! He uses a combination of meditative
practice, training expertise, and primal motivation (you wanna be FINER
than everyone else, right?) to get you moving. I've worked with really
fantastic people over the years, I've been quite lucky. I also have an
extreme amount of self motivation, which does in part derive from my
vanity. Don't underestimate the power of wanting to look good! I've also
taught myself healthy cooking techniques and found great restaurants that
prepare clean, healthy foods.
Do
you prefer to tan or use tanning lotion?
As much as science says it's bad, I love
to tan in a tanning bed. I prefer this as it is in a timed and regulated
environment; when I'm outside, I use spf 5000. =) This has provided me
with a base tan that kept me from burning even under the hot African sun,
and it always lifts my spirits to jump in the tanning bed. I think it's a
Vitamin D thing. However, I use a moisturizer every tanning session that
is loaded with Coenzyme Q10 which prevents skin damage, and Neutrogena
moisturizer after showers.
First
Interest In Fitness/Bodybuilding
this came while working at a job at
Worlds Gym in Clear Lake, TX. I was working several jobs while putting
myself thru college, this was one I accidentally happened upon. Some
competitive bodybuilders came around and told me I'd make a fantastic
bodybuilder, that I had great genetics. Having been the fat kid in school
and recently losing weight, I was thrilled at the prospect of becoming an
athlete! I let them get me off of the stair stepper and into the weight
room. I then took a weight training class in college, and then met a man I
was with for some time who taught me power lifting, the finer points of
bodybuilding, nutrition and supplementation. I would love the chance to
thank all of these people at this point in my life for giving me this
inspiration, they all changed the course of my life.
Goal
Within The modeling/ Fitness Industry I
would like to help contribute to creating a more mainstream vision of
fitness, of curvy muscular women. I hope to have more crossover work in
modeling, TV and film, and bring the fitness industry more into the
limelight. I'd like to see more actresses with fit, muscular bodies...all
while maintaining their femininity. Strong women are becoming more
prevalent in television and film - especially with Hillary Swank training
as a boxer, putting on some very attractive muscle, and that film
generating so much success! These successes are creating more opportunity
for us.
Life
Goals - To achieve success as an actress,
to write and produce my own films, to have a few successful E businesses,
to have the financial freedom to travel the rest of the world I haven't
seen, to have horse property, to eventually have a family, and to have as
much fun as humanly possible.
Dreams - My goals are my dreams. I make
my dreams happen.

comedy store...I can be moody at times, but I'm generally a very happy,
passionate person.
Things I hate:
bad drivers, rain in southern California, fast food restaurants being
legal, racism, sexism, closed minded individuals, the extreme right or
left in politics, unintentionally hurting a friend.
Things I love -
men, going out with great friends! fabulous dinners, great wine (cabernet,
amarone, barolo) great music (techno, hip hop, alternative rock, new wave

Favorite Nutritional Supplements, why:
I love several different
protein
powders mixed with a ton of ice and a
splash of soy milk...I usually have one or two a day. They are sweet, and
I can make them gigantic with tons of water and ice so I'm full for a
while.
Favorite Cardio Work out, why:
I love jamming on an elliptical with
great techno in the walkman...or Ipod if I ever remember to charge it up.
It burns the most calories and always makes my butt feel instantly
tighter...the elliptical, not my ipod/walkman...boy wouldn't that be nice.
Favorite exercise equipment, why:
free weights, baby. and hammer strength equipment. utilizing your muscle
groups in compound exercises is the best for overall fitness, and I'm a
power lifter at heart. If you could only do a few exercises for your
fitness routine, I'd recommend squats, dead lifts, bench presses, and the
Olympic clean and jerk.
Favorite Exercise, why;
I love to squat though I don't go heavy anymore to keep my waist smaller.
It went from being an impossible move when I first began to being my
banner lift as a power lifter. I love training legs period though...and I
still squat, just with light weights for high reps, usually done in giant
sets with leg presses for extreme exhaustion of the quadriceps.
Least
Favorite Exercise that I must do:
LUNGES. walking lunges up and down the parking lot of Golds...
